We are called Abraham

When I opened “Ask and It Is Given” to begin looking for the topic of my first post on this blog, I passed the Forward by Dr. Wayne Dyer, as well as the introductions by Jerry and Esther Hicks, and turned to Chapter 1.  There, in the first two paragraphs, I found what I was after:

“We are called Abraham, and we are speaking to you from the Non-Physical dimension.  Of course, you must understand that you also have come forth from the Non-Physical dimension, so we are not so different from one another.  Your physical world has come forth from the projection of the Non-Physical.  In fact, you and your physical world are extensions of the Non-Physical Source Energy.

“In this Non-Physical realm, we do not use words, for we do not require language.  We also do not have tongues with which to speak or ears with which to hear, although we do communicate perfectly with one another.  Our Non-Physical language is one of vibration, and our Non-Physical communities, or families, are those of intention.  In other words, we radiate that which we are, vibrationally, and others of like intent assemble.  That is also true of your physical world, although most of you have forgotten that this is so.”

So much information in such a short time!  Let’s start at the beginning, shall we?

“We are called Abraham, and we are speaking to you from the Non-Physical dimension.”  What I have found quite curious is that when I speak to people about Abraham, no one questions the idea that this is a Non-Physical being, or entity.  I haven’t seen any rolling eyes or smug grins.

But, while acceptance of this concept is not required to learn about or use the Law Of Attraction, it does make the acceptance of your own capabilities and responsibilities around LOA more profound.  Here’s what I mean.

  • If you accept that Abraham is Non-Physical, then you will find it easier to accept that he/they/it is indeed connected to Source Energy.
  • If Abraham is connected to Source Energy, they are connected to God/nature/the universe.
  • Abraham says that you and I, as well as all the world around us, are extensions of Source Energy into the physical dimension.
  • If we are extensions of Source Energy, all things are possible for us.  We can create what we want, at will.

All of us have known people who go through their lives believing that they are victims; that life just has it in for them.  Their spouses or lovers cheat on them in order to hurt them.  Their co-workers dump extra work on them.  The boss is just looking for an excuse to fire them.  They keep having auto accidents because other people can’t drive.  Etc.

One of my beliefs about people who go through life in denial of the part they play in their own misfortunes is that they cannot allow themselves to accept the responsibility for their situations.  If they were to honestly accept that they were the cause of their grief, it would be incumbent upon them to do something about it.  And, unfortunately, doing something is at least perceived as being harder than not doing something.

A quick story:

A traveling salesman stops at a farm house, far out in the countryside.  As he steps up onto the porch, he spots a hound dog laying a few feet from the door.  The dog looks up at him and lets out a small, lazy howl, then puts his head back down.

The salesman knocks on the door, and it’s answered by the man of the house.  The salesman introduces himself, explaining what it is he sells, and the farmer says, “You know.  I’ve been thinking about buying some of that.  Let’s have us a chat.”  He leads the salesman past the dog, to a couple of chairs on the porch.

They proceed to talk, and every 5 minutes or so, the dog lifts his head and lets out another howl.  Eventually, the salesman can’t ignore it, and asks the farmer, “Is he OK?  He sounds like he’s in pain.”

“Aw, he’s just layin’ on a nail,” says the farmer.

The salesman is shocked.  ”A nail?  Well, why doesn’t he get up and move?”

The farmer shrugs his shoulders.  ”I guess it don’t hurt ‘im enough, yet.”

Making life changes is often perceived as being hard to do, because we tend to think we have to make them all at once.  So, unless we are well-motivated, we may not feel as though it’s worth the effort.  But, in reality, making big changes can usually be accomplished in small, easy steps.  We just need to know where to start.

What’s my point?  This; that accepting Abraham as Non-Physical implies that you accept yourself as extension of Non-Physical, which implies that you have tremendous power to effect change in your life.  That brings tremendous responsibility along with it.  After all, you now have no one to blame for your situation in life, regardless of what it is.

The good news is that you can learn to change anything about your life you wish to change.  It’s easy.  It’s simple.  It’s fast.  It’s even fun!

But, I’m ahead of myself here.  Down the road, we’ll discuss the how-to’s.  Right now, let’s look at the 2nd paragraph.

What’s key here are the 3rd & 4th sentences.  Abraham says that they speak with vibration, and others with similar intentions are drawn together.

Over and over again in their teachings, Abraham repeats that we and our world are vibrational.  Interestingly, science backs this up.  If you look close enough at any “physical” object, you find that everything is moving.  There is nothing truly solid.  It’s all just protons and electrons, and it’s all moving around all over the place.  The only thing that seems to be holding it all together is magnetism.  Or magic…

Ok, so everything is vibrating.  What do we know about vibration?  Well, we know that a guitar string will cause a tuning fork to vibrate when the string is stretched to the right tension, causing it to vibrate at a sympathetic (the same) rate to the fork.  When the frequency is right, the two objects communicate.  If one of the two could maintain the vibration, they would eventually cause other objects within range of the sound waves to vibrate as well.  If there were enough like-tuned objects within range of each other, every one of them, all around the world, would vibrate in time with the rest.

On the other hand, if the frequency of the string is not right, the fork doesn’t react.  In fact, if you introduce another vibration in contrast to the original, they will work against each other, and both will die out more quickly than if there was no conflicting frequency.

How does this relate to people?  I’m from Chicago, one of the most ethnically diverse cities anywhere.  Drive down a main street and you can tell, just by looking at the people on the street, when you travel from an Italian neighborhood to a German one, to an Asian one.  How is this possible?  It’s because like attracts like.

Nobody tells the Puerto Rican immigrant he has to live in any particular area, but he chooses to live in a Puerto Rican neighborhood because he feels more comfortable there.  He’s familiar with the vibrations of that neighborhood.  He feels better when he is vibrating amongst others of the same vibration.  He will be happy and prosperous.

People of similar intention find each other.  It’s the natural order of things.  But, force that same Puerto Rican to move into a Jewish neighborhood, or an African one, or Chinese, and he’s likely to be unhappy.  His natural vibrations will be restricted, and he will move away at his first opportunity, even if the neighborhood is more desirable by objective standards (ie; less crime, better schools, better shopping, etc.).

The same thing happens in the animal kingdom (as if we weren’t animals).  You don’t see a lot of pigeons, crows and sparrows mixing amongst each other, do you?  No, but you can see them with their own kind any day of the week, sometimes in huge numbers.  They are happier with their own kind, even if they would be safer or more well-fed with another.

I apologize for the long-winded post.  Hopefully, you didn’t fall asleep on me!  And maybe this is fair warning for the future, eh?

So, to summarize; we and our world are vibrational constructs, putting out signals, and we attract – and are attracted to – others of similar intent.  These two ideas are foundational to the Law Of Attraction.
